Coaching Experience

The words “volleyball” and “Ken Li” are synonymous in East Vancouver. Ken has been involved with youth volleyball in the east side of the city for over 10 years. We all know how he has been a major contributor to the recent rise of boys’ volleyball in Vancouver through his many years of work at the club and high school levels, through the creation of the Apex Volleyball Club and prior to that, Paranoia Volleyball Club, but also as the AAA Zone Representative for boys’ volleyball in the Lower Mainland, in addition to running one of the largest high school boys volleyball tournaments in Canada, at the UBC Invitational Tournament at the end of every September.

Ken’s high school record in the Lower Mainland is enviable; since he began coaching as an assistant with Van Tech in 1997, every one of the teams that Ken has been involved with has finished no lower than 3rd place in the city (except for one unfortunate year where a team finished 4th), including 5 city championships, 4 silver medal finishes, and 3 bronze. Every senior boys team that Ken has coached has qualified for the provincial championships and has finished at least 3rd place or better in the zone, including a zone championship in 2007.

In addition to his duties with the UBC Men’s team, where he tackles video and opponent scouting, Ken’s ensures the every day operation of Apex. In 2010, Ken was selected as Volleyball BC’s Community Administrator of the Year, as Apex grew to the province’s 4th largest club, after starting with just 1 team in 2004.
