U16 Assault Bring Home the Gold
It was a tough season full of long practices three nights a week in gyms and churches, training camps, coaching specialists and team bonding activities. However, the newly formed U16 Apex Assault team came out on top. This extremely talented group of girls came together this year not having played together before and put it all on the line. They came to late night practices, 1/2 day training camps and remained dedicated to coming together as a team, both on and off the court. This team of girls worked their butts off and showed some major improvements over the season, especially at Nationals in Calgary. The girls were hitting 51s & soft shoots, running tandems, communicating, dominating the net, digging every ball that came their way and playing with true heart and passion.
The gold medal match brought us up against a tall team from the Yukon. However, Apex Assault surpassed all expectations and easily defeated the team 25-7 in the first set and 25-15 in the second. The team proudly brought home the gold medal to Vancouver. The coaches (Tommy Li and Robyn Leuty) are extremely proud of this team and their accomplishments this year, as it wasn’t easy to learn to play together as a team with individuals who have only played on opposing sides of the net in the past. Thank you girls for an awesome season!
